I like the whole night-clouds-moon thing, but I don't get the whole bright-as-sun-moon/night thing...?

That's what I was thinking when I took the picture. I have another picture of the moon I took that same night. But when I tried to shop it in, the bright circle was larger than the actual image of the moon. So I abandoned the idea of substituting it in and just went with it. If u want, I can post the moon image and you can try to shop it in. I'm not very good with that kind of stuff yet. :(

I would but I don't know anything about photoshopping. How did the moon get to be so bright?

It was a clear night and my exposure time was pretty long. That usually results in a very bright object. However, to get the moon just right, you need a tripod, long exposure time, and high f-stop. Unfortunately, the high f-stop makes it impossible to see the clouds. Which is why I wanted to shop it in to get a more natural view.

I'm just going to say here and now that I'm ridiculously amateur and let you know that you lost me when you said "f-stop" because that still confuses me.
Anyway, better luck next time.

Haha. Sorry for all the jargon. F-stop refers to how "open" the shutter is. A high f-stop means it's open only a tiny bit and a low f-stop means it's open wide. It governs the amount of light let in during exposures. :P Sorry if I was rude before.

Yeah but then there's something about aperture and depth of field and TV shutter speed dictates the amount of light let in. >.< I'm not going to make you explain it all to me. (Although if you really want to try go ahead. :P) And you weren't rude.

Photography something you learn from doing a lot of practice. Sure, you can learn everything by having somebody explain it, but somebody once told me that you earn best by doing it yourself. Hell, I didn't know half this stuff until I got a DSLR. :D But if you're open to discovery and learning, then you will find that perfect combination of setting that gives you a gorgeous picture.
